My Portfolio

In my current project I decided to create lighting using porcelain, inspired by Habitat designer Kathy Dalwood. I love the translucent quality of porcelain and the challenge of working with such a temperamental medium.

I enjoyed doing these overlapping continuous line drawings because they were quick and spontaneous. I used a range of materials such as ink, pencil, graphite and fine liner. The images show the slave trade and cotton industry in Manchester, part of the "Cultural Journeys" brief.

Objects I saw in Manchester museum relating to the slave trade inspired these pieces. I enjoyed the brief because I got to work in lots of different areas such as jewellery, ceramics and 3D.  I experimented with stitching porcelain tiles together with wire to create jewellery and wall hangings.

Here I created models inspired by architecture I had seen in Manchester. The models were to be used for a book cover on Constructivism.

I developed screen prints from the architecture and used a specific font to relate to the military aspect of Constructivism.

This is the final design for a book cover inspired by Constructivism. Using Photoshop, I combined the screen print with images of the models I had made.

This is an observational painting of a shell using experimental mark making. Objects such as spatulas, cardboard, paint brushes and toothbrushes were used to create texture.

I think that creating a mood board is very inspirational because it helps me start the design process.

This project was sculptural textiles and this is my favorite piece of work because I felt I really achieved something making it. My inspiration for this piece is blood cells I used red felt and wire wool to create hundreds of individual pieces to be attached to the base. It actually made my fingers bleed!!

This was a community arts brief using recycled materials to form light shades.

In this early portrait project, I was introduced to different techniques such as printing, textiles, drawing, painting, collage, photo montage and weaving. This helped me to see the potential for experimentation in art & design throughout my course.
